Acceptance to TG occurs after review by the admissions committee of the completed application fileand placement exam scores.

Enroll as soon as possible to secure class spots.

Totino-Grace seeks to serve the needs of students with a wide range of abilities. Through our Learning Pathways Program, we are able to accommodate most students who have special learning needs. However, when students score very low on the placement examor have other needs which require accommodations, we will review their needs and determine whether Totino-Grace can provide a successful academic experience. If Totino-Grace determines it cannot provide the necessary programs for a student, we will refund the enrollment fee and deny admission.

Admission for a new student may be held or denied, if the person(s) who will be financially responsible for the student, has/have a past due balance from a current or former student.

Submit Financial Responsibility Form, Enrollment Contract and Fee

Once a student has been accepted, the family will receive an email inviting them to complete the Financial Responsibility Form, Online Enrollment Contract, and submit the enrollment fee.

Submit Academic Preference Form

The 9th Grade Academic Preference Form will only be made available to students who have been accepted and submitted the Enrollment Contract and Enrollment Fee. The Academic Preference Form allows students to make course selection preference. Please note courses are filled as students register. To ensure enrollment in preferred courses we encourage submission of this form promptly.

English Placement

The HSPT (High School Placement Test) helps us with preliminary English placement for students. Based on students’ scores in three categories - verbal, reading, and language - we will place studentsin one of three levels of freshmen English: Honors, Standard or Foundations. Students who score below a combined total of 1250 on those three test areas will initially be placed in Foundations English. Students who have indicated interest and have a combined total of 1650 or greater on those three test areas will be placed in Honors English.

Students who have indicated an interest in Honors English but did not meet the cumulative benchmark score, are invited to take an additional writing assessment that, along with their HSPT score, will determine final placement for Honors English.

Appointments to take the additional writing assessment can be arranged by contacting Mrs. Amy Nelson, Honors English Teacher, amy.g.nelson@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext 741, or by contacting Mrs. Amy Smith, Department Chair, amy.smith@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext 744.

Math Placement

The HSPT helps us with a preliminary math placement for students.Based on the students’ scores on the math section of the HSPT, students are initially placed in one of five sections of math:Foundations Algebra 1, Standard Algebra 1, Foundations Geometry, Standard Geometry, or Honors Geometry.

Students who have not had a full year of Algebra 1 (both Linear AND Quadratic) will be placed in either Foundations Algebra 1 or Standard Algebra 1.

Students who have completed a full year of Algebra 1 in 8th grade will be invited to test out of Algebra 1.

Students who have completed a full year of Geometry in 8th grade will be invited to test out of Geometry.

Group testing dates for math assessments have passed. Contact admissions@totinograce.org to schedule the math assessment.

All Algebra and Geometry assessments will take place at Totino-Grace High School
-Students should bring their own pencil.
-Calculators will be provided.
-Testing time will be 1.5 hours (Most students will finish in less than 1.5 hours)
-Students may leave as soon as they finish the test.
-No pre-registration for the test is required and there is no fee.
-Student and Parent(s) will be notified of the results via email as soon as a placement is determined

If you have any questions about math placement, please contact Mr. Tim Glynn at tim.glynn@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext. 746.

French Placement

All students who registered for French will be placed in level 1. Students wishing to be placed in level 2 or higher must show sufficient proficiency on a French placement test. There is no fee for the test. For those students interested in upper-level placement contact Mr. William Kvot at william.kvot@totinograce.org to make arrangements for taking the French placement test at TG.

This French placement test takes place at Totino-Grace.

Spanish Placement

The Spanish placement testing dates are closed. If you missed the deadline of May 4, please reach out to admissions@totinograce.org for assistance in setting something up.

All students who registered for Spanish will be placed in level 1. Students wishing to be placed in level 2 or higher will need to complete an online placement test to assess Spanish proficiency. Testing is done online, at home. The test is open between April 20, 2024 and May 4, 2024. You can practice and take the test HERE.

Each student’s score will be evaluated and used to determine which placement is most appropriate. Students who are currently in a Spanish class that meets once or twice a week will likely be bestserved in Spanish 1 next year. Typically, 8th graders who are ready for level 2 are currently successful in a Spanish class that meets the equivalent of 45 minutes per day for one school year. Students with very advanced skills because of outside experience, such as speaking Spanish at home or immersion experience, might even be placed in level 3.

Science Placement

All students take a full year of physics their freshman year. The placement exam helps us with preliminary physics placement for students. Based on students’ scores on the Battery Composite for the HSPT,we will place students in one of three levels of physics: Honors, Standard or Foundations. Studentswho score below a 400 on the Battery Composite will initially be placed in Foundations Physics. Students who have indicated interest and have a score greater than 550 on the Battery Compositewill be placed in Honors Physics.

Students who have indicated an interest in Honors Physics but did not meet the benchmark score should contact Ms. Katie Koessler atkatie.koessler@totinograce.org or 763-586-6330 ext. 729.
