Hack of: Pokemon Emerald
Pokemon Theta Emerald EX is a Game Boy Advance rom hack of Pokemon Emerald. This game has a lot of new features and additions from later generations that make the basic Pokemon Emerald harder and more fun for the average Pokemon player.
As the name implies, Pokemon Theta Emerald EX is not a completely new Pokemon game. The story, characters, and base elements are still the same. But the additional features make for a very exciting game. You can even do a Nuzlocke on it (Trust me, it’s a lot of fun).

Who is this game for?
This game is for you if you are an experienced and seasoned player looking for a new and exciting way to play Pokemon Emerald.
However, this game isn’t for you if you’re looking for a new Pokemon game with a new map, features, fakemon, etc.
Screenshots
Features and additions
The most notable and exciting thing about Pokemon Theta Emerald EX is that almost every single Pokemon generation is present here.
That’s right. All 721 Pokemon from Generations 1 to 6 are available in this game. All the Trainers and Gym Leaders use Pokemon from all six generations.
And I have to say, the final result is pretty nice. The sprites and colors fit very well. Looks almost as if they were part of the original game.
Physical/Special split
Yes, Pokemon Theta Emerald EX does have a physical/special split, allowing Pokémon to use moves from a wider variety of types.
Fairy types
This game has Fairy typing on all intended Pokemon like Gardevoir, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, etc.
Reusable TMs
You can use TMs infinitely here. Just like HMs.Felt nice not having to worry about using my one and only Earthquake TM.
Modern repel system
If your repel runs out, you won’t have to look for one in your bag. The game will automatically ask if you would like to use another one.
Deletable HMs
You can delete HM moves without having to go to a Move Deleter.
Mega evolution
One of the best things about this game is that it fully supports Mega Evolution. Every single Pokemon that can Mega Evolve in Generation 6, can Mega Evolve in this game as well.
I honestly didn’t expect this feature to blend as well as it does in this game. It felt as if Mega Evolutions were a part of the original game all along.
Extended items pocket
The Items pocket in the bag can hold 200+ items.Huzzah! Now you won’t have to regularly toss items to make some room.
Glitches
The game, although good, is not without its fair share of glitches. After all, no matter how good the game looks and works, it’s still a fan-made game. Some of the glitches I’ve found include:
- A new Pokemon, replacing one of the original 386, appears on the Hall of Fame screen after you beat the game
- Some Pokemon display a different colored icon if they level up outside of battle
- Some new Pokemon display a different colored icon when selecting more than one Pokemon in a box
- Losing TMs or HMs when going near the Battle Tent
- Game sometimes freezes up when:
- Entering a Pokemon Contest
- Touching the blackboard inside the Trainer School in Rustboro City
- Teaching Hydro Pump, from the boy in Fallarbor Town, to one of your Pokemon
- Double battling one of the trainers in Mauville City
How to download
You can download this Game Boy Advance rom hack by clicking on the following MediaFire link provided by the game creator himself: Pokemon Theta Emerald EX Download
The compressed file contains the patch of the game and a patcher application.
All Pokemon locations
Worried about trying to look for your favorite Pokemon on a map that contains over 700+ Pokemons? Worry no more. Here’s a Google Sheet with all the wild Pokemons’ locations, levels, and encounter rates: Theta Emerald EX Pokemon Locations
All Mega Stones locations
You can start using Mega Stones after obtaining the fifth gym badge. However, the stones are invisible and spread randomly throughout the Hoenn region. You’ll need an Itemfinder to start locating them.Sounds way more complicated than it needs to be? I understand. You can watch the video below to pick up all of the Mega Stones:
All Arceus plates
Just like Mega Stones, Arceus Plates are invisible and spread randomly throughout the Hoenn region. You’ll need an Itemfinder to find all of them.Or you can just watch the video below:
All TM locations
It can get a bit annoying to keep track of all 100+ TMs in the game. Instead of exploring Hoenn’s every nook and cranny, you can just watch this helpful video instead:
You can find popular TMs like Calm Mind at 9:15, Rain Dance at 10:29, Sunny Day at 5:54, Dragon Claw at 14:45, Double Team at 2:24, and Shadow Ball at 7:46.
All creation trio orb locations
The creator of the game is a bit of a trickster. Creation trio orbs are also invisible and spread throughout the region.
Watch the video to save yourself from a world of pain:
And kudos to LHTN BR for uploading these videos. Pokemon fans all over thank you for your service.

Cheats
It should be noted that not all GBA emulators support cheat codes. For example, Action Replay cheats aren’t supported by OpenEmu for Mac.
For Mac OS users who really want to use some cheat codes, I recommend installing Bluestacks and downloading My Boy.
